Transcript: the Questions

Kia ora, my name is Grace.

In this video I will be reading out the questions that are on the on-line survey.

We would like to hear your ideas on what could be done differently to better support, protect and empower disabled children.

Your feedback will help us to review how government provides voluntary out-of-home placements for severely disabled children under the legislation, section 141 and 142 of the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act 1989.

I am going to read to you the questions we are asking for this review. These are also available on the website:

  • Question 1: What do you think might help to improve situations where families are having difficulties caring for their disabled children at home and are considering an out-of-home placement under sections 141 or 142 of the CYPF Act?
  • Question 2 :What changes do you think might improve the decision-making process for disabled children when they move to an out-of-home placement?
  • Question 3: What support and changes do you think might be needed so that children and families can live together again (of course when this is possible and in the child’s best interest)?
  • Question 4: What in your view makes a good out-of-home placement?
  • Question 5: What would you suggest are the best ways of supporting disabled children and families to maintain strong relationships during an out-of-home placement?
  • Question 7: What could be done to ensure the rights of children who are (or likely to be) in out-of-home placements are recognised, respected and protected?
  • Question 8: What changes could be made to the law to ensure that disabled children’s rights are protected in the same way as other children who are in out-of-home care?
  • Question 9: What changes might be needed to support disabled young people to successfully transition to other living arrangements such as living in the community with other people or by themselves with support if needed?
  • Question 10: Do you have any other comments or suggestions you would like to make, or is there anything else you would like to tell us?

If you would like to know more about these, or to see them in print, please contact us or visit our web page.
