Taskforce reports

The First Report

The Taskforce published its First Report in July 2006, setting out its vision and programme of action for 2006/2007 and beyond.

The Taskforce vision is that:

All families and whānau have healthy, respectful, stable relationships, free from violence.

The Taskforce is taking action on four fronts to achieve its vision:

  • leadership – we need leadership at all levels if we are going to transform our society into one that does not tolerate family violence
  • changing attitudes and behaviour – we have to reduce society’s tolerance of violence and change people’s damaging behaviour within families
  • safety and accountability – swift and unambiguous action by safe family members and the justice sector increases the chances of people being safe and of holding perpetrators to account
  • effective support services – individuals and families affected by family violence need help and support from all of us so they can recover and thrive.

The Ongoing Programme of Action

The second report, the Ongoing Programme of Action, builds on and continues the work of the Taskforce for 2007/2008 and beyond.  The Ongoing Programme of Action lets New Zealanders see what the Taskforce is doing to eliminate family violence, and provides an opportunity for New Zealanders to review the Taskforce’s achievements from its First Programme of Action.

The Taskforce acknowledge that eliminating family violence is a long-term goal that requires a sustained and co-ordinated effort from government, non-government, the community and individuals.

The Ongoing Programme of Action 2010-2011

The Ongoing Programme of Action 2010/2011 continues the work of the Taskforce. Whilst the emphasis of the 2010/11 plan is consistent with what has gone before, it is also distinctive. The plan is oriented to action - in each of the focus areas outlined below, we have specific measurable actions which will occur during 2010/2011:

1. Inspiring behaviour change and empowering families/whānau to respond
2. Supporting and encouraging leadership locally
3. Support to improve family violence responses in each community, including developing and trialling an integrated case response model
4. Better integration of justice and social service responses
5. An ongoing evaluative approach and measuring results.

The Taskforce Programme of Action 2011/2012

The Taskforce Programme of Action 2011/2012 continues the work of the Taskforce.  In each of the focus areas outlined below, we have specific measurable actions which will occur during 2011/2012:

1. National and local leadership and co-ordination

2. Evidence-based planning for new initiatives and continuous improvement

3. Inspiring behaviour change and empowering families/whānau to respond

4. Early intervention, crisis response and rebuilding lives.

The Taskforce Programme of Action 2012/2013

The Taskforce Programme of Action 2012/2013 continues the work of the Taskforce.  The Programme of Action recognises that action on family violence is a feature of the Government’s current priority programmes as well as a number of ongoing programmes, and that Taskforce work sits alongside these programmes.

The Programme of Action 2012/2013 includes new priority areas of work with a strong focus on producing evidence that will inform effective investment in family violence interventions.
