The Ministry of Social Development is delivering a programme of work to ensure the public sector is accessible for everyone and inclusive of disabled people.

Improving accessibility is vital if New Zealand is to support disabled people to have equal access to government services and achieve fundamental human rights. As a result, the government is introducing a new framework that takes a progressive approach to identifying, preventing, and removing barriers to participation for disabled people, tāngata whaikaha Māori, and others with accessibility needs.

Accessibility Guide: Leading the way in accessible information

The ‘Accessibility Guide: Leading the way in accessible information’ outlines what accessibility is, why accessibility is important, and how the public sector makes sure its information and communications are accessible for disabled people.

Accessibility and alternate formats – all-of-government process

The Ministry of Social Development is responsible for coordinating all-of-government’s management of alternate formats – Easy Read, New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL), Large Print, Braille and Audio. It is also responsible for coordinating advice on creating accessible information.
