MSD's 2025 Long-Term Insights Briefing

MSD is currently consulting on the draft Long-Term Insights Briefing (LTIB).

Current and future disadvantage for older New Zealanders

The draft LTIB looks at how long-term trends related to population ageing, housing pressures, and material hardship may affect older people over the coming decades.

The Long-Term Insights Briefing is not government policy. It is independent research required under the Public Service Act 2020 to support long-term thinking across the public sector.

More information on LTIBs can be found on the DPMC website.

We want your feedback on the draft LTIB

We welcome feedback from individuals, community organisations, service providers, and others with an interest in the wellbeing of older people.

Here is the draft briefing and a summary:

We have also included supplementary materials:

You can provide feedback by sending a written submission to ofs@msd.govt.nz or Long-Term Insights Briefing Consultation, PO Box 1556, Wellington, 6140.
