Briefing to the incoming Ministers - 2008

After each election we provide our Ministers with briefings on their portfolios, the Ministry and our work. Our briefings to the Minister for Social Development and Employment, the Minister for Disability Issues and the Minister of Youth Affairs are below.


Policy and Practice briefing

The Policy and Practice Briefing provides information on the challenges facing the Ministry as it creates policy and puts it into practice. This briefing is broken up into four main parts; Children, young people and their families, income and employment for adults, older people and re-shaping services for better results.


Organisation briefing

The Organisation Briefing looks at the Ministry of Social Development as an organisation. It's structured into four parts; About the Ministry of Social Development, where we are now, what we are trying to achieve and opportunities and challenges.


Social Outcomes

The Social Outcomes Briefing provides information on the last fifteen years of social outcomes, examines the challenges we currently face and looks at ways we can work together to meet these challenges in the coming years.


Enabling participation by disabled New Zealanders

The Enabling Participation by Disabled New Zealander's Briefing provides information on the current situation in New Zealand for disabled people, the challenges facing the disability sector and how we might work together to meet these challenges in the coming years.


Supporting vulnerable children and young people

The Supporting Vulnerable Children and Young People Briefing focuses on the role of Child, Youth and Family. It discusses the challenges we currently face and our priorities for the next two years and signals four main opportunities to make even more of a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people in the future.

The New Zealanders: getting older, doing more briefing provides an overview of what it means to be older today, how today's older people differ from their parents and grandparents, and what the challenges and opportunities are for older people. This is examined in terms of the impact on the economy of an ageing population, and on society in general.

The Working for Young People for a Better Future Briefing provides information from the Ministry of Youth Development. It includes an overview of life for youth in New Zealand today, the current challenges and opportunities facing the Ministry and how it works.
