Ministerial Direction - Jobseeker Support (Parental Support Gap for the Parental Income Requirement)

This direction, which comes into effect on 2 November 2026, sets out the relevant evidence required for MSD to be satisfied of a parental support gap under section 23G(1) of the Social Security Act 2018 (the Act).
The parental support gap is part of the parental income requirement which must be met for a specified young person to be entitled to jobseeker support or the equivalent emergency benefit under sections 20(ca) and 63(2A) of the Act.
The parental income requirement is being introduced on 2 November 2026 by Part 1 of the Social Security (Jobseeker Support and Accommodation Supplement) Amendment Act 2026.
