Making it work
To get the best results for everyone involved, there are some important things to consider when setting up an intergenerational initiative.
- What outcomes do you want from the initiative?
- How will you know the initiative is effective?
- What are the roles of volunteers?
- Who will be responsible for managing the initiative and finding volunteers?
- How will you select the volunteers?
- What resources are required?
- What written guidelines are necessary such as safety, confidentiality, privacy?
- What support is there for the people involved? How will this be provided?
- Do consent forms need to be signed by volunteers, the students or their family?
- How will security clearance procedures be carried out?
