Intergenerational activity

Making it work

To get the best results for everyone involved, there are some important things to consider when setting up an intergenerational initiative.

  • What outcomes do you want from the initiative?
  • How will you know the initiative is effective?
  • What are the roles of volunteers?
  • Who will be responsible for managing the initiative and finding volunteers?
  • How will you select the volunteers?
  • What resources are required?
  • What written guidelines are necessary such as safety, confidentiality, privacy?
  • What support is there for the people involved? How will this be provided?
  • Do consent forms need to be signed by volunteers, the students or their family?
  • How will security clearance procedures be carried out?
