Review of Housing Support Products

In August 2017, the Ministry reviewed the uptake of Housing Support Products to understand how they were being used by clients.

The findings of the review generally show that these products are helping people access and sustain housing in the private sector (eg rental accommodation) and are an important financial support for those who use them.

Recipients of Housing Support Products tend to be:

  • Female (77 percent)
  • Māori (49 percent)
  • Un-partnered (57 percent)
  • With dependent children (44 percent)
  • Receiving Sole Parent Support (93 percent)
  • Receiving Jobseeker Support (23 percent)
  • Not on a main benefit (27 percent).
