RFP for additional 300 social housing tenancies for Auckland
16 June 2015.
The Ministry has today released a closed Request for Proposal (RFP) for around 300 additional social housing tenancies in Auckland.
This RFP follows the Registration of Interest (ROI) that closed in February this year. ROI responses have been evaluated and only those shortlisted have been invited to submit a full proposal through the RFP.
The additional 300 tenancies will come from a mix of new builds, leased properties or re-locatables – provided or sourced by the community housing providers.
The RFP is asking for proposals with an innovative approach for the extra IRRS tenancies. The additional tenancies will be in Auckland as this is where the demand for social housing is highest.
The Housing Restructuring and Tenancy Matters (Social Housing Reform) Amendment Act 2015 passed in May has introduced greater flexibility to the way MSD can negotiate and contract with social housing providers.
MSD wants to negotiate long-term agreements with guaranteed tenancies. This will give housing providers income certainty and help grow the number of social houses overall. Providers will be either a registered CHP or be able to achieve CHP registration.
There is no change for people already on the social housing register. They will continue to be referred to social housing providers in the usual way when suitable properties become available.
