Peke Waihanga Artificial Limb Service - Budget 2023
Supporting the continued delivery of orthotic services around New Zealand - Wellbeing Budget 2023.
This initiative will support Peke Waihanga's financial resilience and enable sustainable ongoing delivery of this highly valued service.
The Government is investing $1.540 million in 2022/23 to maintain service levels at Peke Waihanga Artificial Limb Service, which faces a variety of cost pressures, including COVID-19 disruption, unexpected legal costs and patient management system requirements.
- Budget 2023 will help Peke Waihanga address its cost pressures, while maintaining the quality of care to patients.
- Peke Waihanga is not normally reliant on the Crown for funding, as it receives fees through the delivery of its services on commercial terms.
- Peke Waihanga is unable to increase its fees as these are fixed for Te Whatu Ora contracts by the Prosthetic Services Pricing Agreement, which has not been reviewed for more than two decades.
- This funding will include completing a fit-for-purpose Patient Management System that optimises patient care and coordination, and improves the clinical effectiveness of the expert workforce.
- Health professionals will spend more time on patient interactions and less time on associated administration tasks.
