North Island Weather Events - Regional System Leadership Framework - Budget 2023
Providing a coordinated public service response in regions affected by Cyclone Gabrielle and the Auckland floods - Wellbeing Budget 2023.
This initiative retains Regional Public Service Commissioners' support staff to help join up public services in regions affected by the North Island Weather Events.
The Government is investing $4.12 million in 2023/24 to help government agencies to coordinate their services in regions affected by the North Island Weather Events (NIWE) and support community and iwi engagement.
- The Regional Public Service Commissioners (RPSCs) have a track record in connecting with their communities, building strong relationships and partnerships between agencies and with communities, and making a difference for their communities through their mandate.
- This funding will cover baseline costs in impacted regions and allow RPSCs to continue to carry out their convening mandate for the public service in affected regions. It will also enable an additional 16 FTEs to be engaged as part of a coordinated and community led response to the NIWE.
- RPSCs are essential to supporting development of shared public service priorities to support locally-led recovery plans in the regions, collaborating with the Recovery Office in local government, and with iwi and communities to build back better.
- This initiative will:
- maintain essential working relationships developed between RPSCs and local iwi/Māori, local government, and local community groups and service providers
- retain collaboration between public service agencies, and
- reduce system gaps and duplications in the immediate and long-term cyclone response.
