Kaupapa Māori Specialist Sexual Violence Services for Whānau - Budget 2023

Providing Māori victims/survivors, perpetrators, and their whānau with Kaupapa Māori specialist support - Wellbeing Budget 2023.

This initiative supports Māori impacted by sexual violence to access Kaupapa Māori specialist sexual violence services that provide a long-term, whānau-centred way of healing.

The Government is investing $8.603 million over three years to strengthen the delivery of Kaupapa Māori specialist sexual violence services for Māori victims/survivors, perpetrators and their whānau to ensure more Māori affected by sexual violence can access the support they need.

• This initiative will:
  • strengthen and improve the accessibility of Kaupapa Māori specialist sexual violence support so that more Māori victims/survivors, perpetrators, and their whānau have choice
  • fund an evaluation to determine effectiveness.
• A Kaupapa Māori approach focused on long-term and sustainable healing, providing holistic care to meet the needs of individuals and whānau, and supporting kaimahi wellness, will sustain whānau wellness through generations.
• Helping Māori victims/survivors, perpetrators, and their whānau heal from the impacts of sexual violence can reduce the intergenerational harm caused by sexual violence.
• This initiative is part of a whole-of-government Te Puna Aonui package of $73.480 million over four years to fill gaps and improve outcomes for family violence and sexual violence services.
• This initiative supports the delivery of the following Te Aorerekura action:
  • Action 30: Develop a plan to fill the service gaps for sexual violence.
• The long-term outcomes include helping Māori victims/survivors, perpetrators, and their whānau with their healing journeys to:
  • improve their quality of life
  • increase their cultural connectedness
  • disrupt the intergenerational transmission of violence and trauma.
