Murray Edridge, DCE Ministry of Social Development has today announced the appointment of Robyn Scott to the position of Director, Ministry of Youth Development.

The position of Director is a new role, established following the Cabinet decision to change the direction of the Ministry of Youth Development.

The role is pivotal in supporting the new priorities of the Ministry aimed at increasing the number of young New Zealanders participating in a more diverse range of quality youth development activities.

Ms Scott brings twenty years of leading change in the community and voluntary sectors. She was Chief Executive of Philanthropy New Zealand for 10 years where she led significant organisational development and growth. The profile of Philanthropy NZ changed from a small peak body to being engaged in multiple partnerships across the government, private, voluntary and community sectors. She is currently Chief Executive of Age Concern where she has been leading a multi-channel campaign for awareness and prevention of elder abuse.

Her experience will be invaluable for building strong partnerships with the business and philanthropic sectors required to establish our proposed new funding options and create the best opportunities for young people.

Participating in youth development opportunities gives young people leadership, volunteering and mentoring experience, helping them towards becoming valuable contributors to their community.

The restructured MYD starts from Monday, 4 April and Ms Scott will take up the position in late April.
