Monthly Benefits Update

An overview of benefit and supplementary assistance data.

The April version of the Monthly Benefits Update includes additional information, such as regional and demographic data. The supporting data table also contains information on Jobseeker Support by Territorial Authority.

UPDATE as at 15th May 2020: The data table for the month of April now also includes Accommodation Supplement data by Territorial Authority.

Income Support and Wage Subsidy Weekly Update

An overview of income support, including wage subsidy assistance. These reports will be published each Friday.

These data tables provide the background figures used to produce the Income Support and Wage Subsidy Weekly Updates.

We are not able to provide regional or industry sector breakdowns for the Wage Subsidy at this time, but we are working to provide this at a future point. We currently do not have an estimate on when the data will be available.

Topic Brief

This report explores the composition of Jobseeker Support Work-Ready grants since the start of New Zealand’s lockdown, by comparing to the same period a year ago.

Support for Businesses – Wage Subsidy by Industry Type and Size

These dashboards show a snapshot of the number of businesses receiving COVID-19 support payments (like the Wage Subsidy), and the value of these payments. The data is as at 15 May 2020 and provides breakdowns by business size and industry. Background data can be found in the supporting data table.

Benefit Number Forecasts and Scenarios

The Treasury releases high-level benefit number and expenditure forecasts as part of the Economic and Fiscal Update releases found here.

As part of the Government’s response to COVID-19, MSD is publishing the Budget Economic and Fiscal Update (BEFU) 2020 for:

  • central benefit number forecasts for BEFU 2020 which also feed into the planning for Work and Income
  • two additional scenarios.

MSD’s benefit number forecasts and scenarios are based on The Treasury’s macro-economic forecasts finalised on 30 March 2020 and scenarios published as part of BEFU 2020.
