Iwi/ Māori

We partner with iwi/Māori on a number of Treaty settlement commitments and partnership agreements that are aimed at improving wellbeing for Māori.

Some of our commitments are:

Te Hiku o te Ika – Crown Social Development and Wellbeing Accord

We are the Crown lead in partnership with Te Puni Kokiri on the Te Hiku Social Accord.  We are responsible for coordinating between Crown agencies and Te Hiku Iwi signatories to support the development of a joint work programme and achieve the aspirations and commitments laid out in the Accord.

Ngāi Tūhoe Service Management Plan

We are the Crown lead on the Ngāi Tūhoe Service Management Plan. We are responsible for providing leadership among Crown agencies in our partnership with Ngāi Tūhoe to provide more effective and better coordinated services.

Taranaki Whānui ki te Upoko o Te Ika a Maui (Taranaki Whānui) Whole of Government Accord

We are committed to working with Taranaki Whānui to leverage common goals for rangatahi development, sustainable employment opportunities and community development.

Heretaunga Tamatea

We are committed to working with Heretaunga Tamatea on matters of common interest, including establishing a collaborative Te Reo Māori initiative enabling job seekers to undertake Te Reo Māori classes, building on the existing recognition by MSD of Te Reo Māori as a work-readiness skill.

Note: MSD’s responsibilities are set out in clauses 5.42 and 5.43.

Ngāti Rangi relationship agreement and Te Kōpae

We are committed to supporting Ngāti Rangi’s aspirations for the social and economic wellbeing of their people and the wider region by cooperatively developing the Te Kōpae collective framework, providing data and information and identifying opportunities for cooperation.

Other partnership agreements

We are also considering new partnership agreements with other iwi and rōpū Māori to work collaboratively on socio-economic issues and to improve Māori wellbeing.

This work programme is supported by the Partnership and Programme’s Iwi/ Māori Team (Post Treaty Settlements Team)
